Iran Press/Iran news: "Given that the monitoring project has been running for at least four days, we have been able to quickly monitor 14 million people and also who have registered their information on a website for a self-declaring process," Saeed Namaki said during a press conference on Monday.
He added that others have been screened by phone calls to patients who have declared themselves and registered their health records into the websites.
"Fortunately, of these 14 million, there were about 73,435 people who were suspected, monitored and 3415 of them were sent to hospitals and 1605 of them hospitalized and the rest of them were sent to their homes to rest or other centers and outpatients were discharged," Saeed Namaki added.
"We could isolate people who could be infected," he said, adding: "We were able to identify all the people who were in contact and cut the chain of dispatch of patients to hospitals and cut the virus spread in the country significantly."
The novel coronavirus, that causes a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year. It has killed more than 6,500 worldwide, according to an estimate from Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking cases reported by the World Health Organization and additional sources.
In Iran, 4996 patients from all 14,991 infected patients diagnosed to coronavirus so far, have recovered and discharged from hospitals across the country.
