At least eight people were killed and 15 wounded in a suicide bombing at a market in eastern Baghdad, capital of Iraq.

Iran Press/Middle East: "A suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up on Thursday in Baghdad’s northeastern Sadr City district," said Iraqi Police Colonel Jamal Hameed.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, Reuters reported.

The Police Colonel said that a parcel had been found on the side of the road near the crowded Jamila market and detonated in a controlled explosion, hurting no one.

A medical source confirmed that the nearby Al-Kindi hospital had received eight bodies.

The attack took place at around 9pm (10pm UAE), at a time when many Iraqis have broken their Ramadan fast and take to the streets.

Also on May 24, at least seven people have lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a bomb attack that struck the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

ISIS began a terrorist offensive in Iraq in 2014, overrunning territory and brutalizing people there. The Iraqi army and volunteer forces soon launched operations to retake occupied territory and eliminate ISIS.

Victory in those operations was declared on December 9, 2017. But pockets of ISIS terrorists and potential sleeper cells continue to have a presence in Iraq. 101/201
