According to an Iran Press report, over the past two years, since 2016, there has been a campaign to encourage the general public, particularly those who are well off, to make more charitable donations towards freeing of prisoners. Prisoners who are eligible for this scheme , tend to be those who have committed less serious offenses, and particularly those who have been imprisoned because they were unable to pay a financial obligation.
