Iran Press/Iran news: Referring to Iranian Judiciary's measures in fighting the coronavirus at a news conference on Tuesday, Gholam-Hossein Esmaeili said: "Those who are exploiting these conditions, by hoarding medicine and healthcare equipment, making huge profits by driving up prices, must know that COVID-19 will be controlled and people will pass these difficult days but those who seek profit by hoarding essential medicines and healthcare products should known that tough punishment awaits them," Esmaeili added.
Iran's Judiciary Spokesman went on to say that to date, the Judiciary has filed numerous cases concerning hoarding of medical equipment, masks and gloves, and some people have been arrested in this conection.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Esmaeili said prosecutors and judges have been advised not to summon individuals to court if it is not absolutely necessary and to try, as much as possible, substitute other punishment for imprisonment. He also said if a judge hands down a prison term, then the implementation of that ruling should be postponed until the new Iranian year (which starts 20 March).
According to Alireza Raisi, Deputy Health Minister, 291 COVID-19 patients across the country recovered from the disease.
The outbreak of the Coronavirus began in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and apparently originated from animals. The virus has now spread to 70 countries in addition to 30 Chinese provinces.
According to the latest statistics, more than 89,000 people have been infected with the virus so far, more than 45,000 have recovered from the disease, and more than 3,000 have lost their lives.
