Rome (IP) - On the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, the Italians held rallies in major cities, demanding to stop sending weapons to Kyiv.

Iran PressEurope: Thousands of people took to the main streets of Rome on Saturday night and by lighting candles and carrying banners, announced their opposition to NATO's policies towards the war in Ukraine and sending weapons to that country.

Hundreds of Italians also gathered in front of the governor of Rome, while chanting against NATO's policies, and emphasizing the necessity of Italy's exit from the European Union and NATO.

Speakers in this rally announced that the all-around support of the United States and NATO to Ukraine has caused unprecedented high prices, double-digit inflation, and stable recession in the continent, especially in Italy.

Giuseppe Conte, the leader of the Five Star Movement party and the former prime minister of Italy, who was present at the anti-war and anti-NATO demonstrations, while opposing the sending of new weapons to Ukraine, called for an end to the war and the start of peace talks.

Conte said the West should have started peace talks from the very beginning and at the same time as sending the first military shipment to Ukraine.

The former PM stated that it is very difficult to hold peace talks at the moment, but it is the only way to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

"Yes to immediate peace and no to war" was the main slogan of the demonstrators.
