Al-Quds (IP) - Palestinian factions and people congratulated the political prisoner who was released from the Israeli jails after 40 years of detention.

Iran PressMiddle East: The longest-serving Palestinian political prisoner, Karim Younis, 66, has been released from an Israeli jail after serving 40 years for the alleged killing of an Israeli soldier, the Middle East Monitor reported.

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, said: "We join the family of the freed fighter Karim Younis, the masses of our people and our other prisoners in their joy at his release, and we stand proudly before the sacrifices and heroism of our free prisoners and our brave female prisoners in the Israeli occupation prisons."

Still, the Fatah Central Committee, stressed that Younis's legendary steadfastness set an authentic example for all the free people of the world who are determined to reject injustice, persecution, and racism.

The committee further stated that the Israeli occupation authority's attempt to prevent any celebration of his release by setting him free without notice will not succeed.

According to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Younis's 40 years spent behind bars illustrates the "fascism and criminality" of the Israeli regime and the "complicity" of the international system.

Israeli Occupation Forces rounded up and detained around 7,000 Palestinians in 2022, contributing to last year being the deadliest since 2005 for those living under Occupation.

Israeli authorities have also been increasing their crackdown on Palestinians expressing opinions online and on social media, particularly on Facebook, with 410 Palestinians having been detained based on their online activity due to "incitement against the Occupation".

Since 1948, the Israeli regime has been occupying Palestine, killing the Palestinian people and destroying their homes.

A total of 2,409 Palestinians were held last year under Israel's notorious policy of administrative detention, without any trial or charge while often having their detentions – lasting for indefinite periods – renewed multiple times.

The city of Al-Quds reportedly witnessed the highest number of arrests, with around 3,000 Palestinians detained by Israeli Forces.
