New Delhi (IP)- Iranian women weightlifters bagged eight medals in the 64 kg weightlifting category at the 2023 Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships.

Iran PressAsia: The Asian Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships are scheduled in New Delhi from July 28 to August 5.

On Early Tuesday, Fatemeh Keshavarz, Ghazaleh Hosseini, and Hanieh Sharifi participated in the 64 kg category as part of group A in the competitions.

Ghazaleh Hosseini emerged as the champion, winning three gold medals.

She impressively lifted 81 kg during a snatch and 101 kg in a clean and jerk, ultimately earning the championship title in the 64 kg category with a total record of 182 kg. This marks Iran's first weightlifting championship in the Asian Junior Championships.

Fatemeh Keshavarz achieved a remarkable feat by lifting 111 kg weight in the clean and jerk category, earning her a gold medal.

She also won silver in the snatch and became the champion of the 64 kg category by reaching a total limit of 197 kg. 

In the snatch event, Hanieh Sharifi lifted 72 kg and placed sixth. However, in the clean and jerk event, she lifted 100 kg and won the silver medal. Her total combined weight of 172 kg earned her the bronze medal for Asia, placing her third behind Ghazaleh Hosseini and the representative of Turkmenistan.
