Upon his arrival in Iraq, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, paid homage to the martyrs of the resistance. En route from Baghdad International Airport to the Presidential Palace, he stopped at the memorial for the fallen commanders and honored their sacrifice.

Iran Press/West Asia: Pezeshkian laid a wreath and recited prayers to commemorate Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and their companions, who were martyred in a U.S. airstrike on January 3, 2020.

President Pezeshkian and his accompanying delegation arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday morning. On the second day of their visit (Thursday), they will travel to the holy cities of Iraq to perform pilgrimages to the sacred shrines before heading to Basra.

According to the Iranian Presidential Office, several bilateral cooperation agreements in the economic, trade, cultural, and social sectors are expected to be signed during the visit.

Erbil will be the final stop of the Iranian president’s trip to Iraq. President Pezeshkian is visiting Baghdad at the joint invitation of Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani.

The president is accompanied by ministers of foreign affairs, roads and urban development, and economy and finance, as well as the chief of staff of the president's office.
