The Iranian Foreign Ministry has welcomed reports of talks in Norway between the Venezuelan government and opposition, saying hopefully the talks will lead to a political solution to the Venezuelan crisis.

Iran Press/Iran news: Welcoming news of talks underway in Norway, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said hopefully the talks will lead to a political settlement, and the Venezuelan government can get on with its real job which is to improve the economy, deal with the many problems the country has, and administer the country in calm.

In further comments Mousavi regretted the fact that some countries interfere in Venezuela's domestic affairs, saying: "It is unfortunate that the US government is punishing the people of Venezuela by blocking Venezuela's oil revenues," Iran Press reported.

Mousavi said conditions in Venezuela improve only when the United States stops its economic terrorism of the country and respects international law.

"The US must stop meddling in Venezuela's internal domestic affairs, and respect international laws and norms," he noted.

Representatives of the Venezuelan government and opposition have purportedly traveled to Norway for talks on resolving the political crisis in the Latin American country.

The negotiations came amid a political stalemate after months of street demonstrations and an opposition call for a military uprising.

Venezuela has been shaken by political unrest in the past several months. In January, tensions worsened after opposition figure Juan Guaido, who is also president of the National Assembly, unilaterally declared himself “interim president” of Venezuela.

The United States quickly accepted that self-proclamation and has since been working with Guaido. 101/211
