Iran Press/ Iran News: Nasser Kanaani explained the latest developments in the field of foreign policy in the weekly meeting with reporters.
He noted: "The protection of Iran's nuclear capabilities and capacities has been carried out in the shadow of these cares and activities."
The spokesman stated: "About Resolution 533, Iran has repeatedly referred to this resolution in the framework of meetings and official correspondence with the IAEA. In the conferences related to NPT, this issue has been cited by the Iranian delegation, and Iran even raised this issue in the conferences related to the revision of the NPT regulations, including in its last meeting, in paragraph 100 of the final draft of the recent NPT revision meeting, and it was included in the draft, but the draft was not approved due to some reasons, but Iran relied on this resolution. There is also Resolution 444, which has provisions in this regard. The country has repeatedly referred to Resolution 444."
Iran to stick to path of diplomacy
The Iranian diplomat answered a question about Iran's diplomacy and interactive approach last week, including the foreign minister's trip to Geneva and the understanding between Iran and the IAEA, and whether this atmosphere and understanding between Iran and the IAEA can provide the basis for the negotiations to lift the sanctions to be serious? He pointed out: "Iran adheres to diplomacy and considers diplomacy as the best framework for resolving disputes, both bilaterally and multilaterally, and acts on this basis. The dynamic of Iranian diplomacy is in this framework."
The official noted: "Iran's entry into negotiations to resolve the nuclear issue, which led to the conclusion of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement, was based on Iran's belief and commitment to the effectiveness of multilateral diplomacy, and it entered into negotiations and agreements based on this. But agreements are a two-way route for all members who entered into negotiations and signed the agreement. Iran has repeatedly emphasized that it adheres to the negotiation process for the responsible and committed return of all parties, including the US administration, to its obligations under the JCPOA."
Grossi trip can lead to good result
Kanaani said: "Grossi's trip to Tehran was a continuation of the diplomatic approach to creating a better and closer path to resolve some technical disagreements in Iran's relations with the IAEA, which fortunately led to good understandings, and we hope that if this process is completed and the responsible actions of the IAEA are completed in the implementation of understandings, the ground should be provided for the resolution of technical disputes, and the excuse should be removed at the disposal of those who consider such technical issues as an obstacle to return to the agreement. Iran has and will adhere to the path of diplomacy, but the path of diplomacy and agreements is a bilateral one, and we have to see whether this adherence and commitment exists in the other parties or not."
Regarding today's meeting of the Board of Governors, the spokesman stressed: "The meeting of the IAEA is in the framework of periodic meetings. The issues related to Iran and the discussion of points related to Iran are in today's meeting of the IAEA. This is also in the framework of the issues that are periodically raised in the programs of the IAEA. Today's meeting is not only related to Iran's nuclear issues and other issues are in the agenda."
He added: "The Director General of the IAEA submits 6-monthly reports to the UN Security Council based on Resolution 2231. Considering Grossi's trip to Tehran and the high-level negotiations with Iranian officials and the understandings reached with the Atomic Energy Organization, it is expected that the summit process will proceed in its technical process, and issues go ahead well outside of politicizing and pressure from some parties."
Kananni said about the transfer of 92 weapons shipments from Israel to the Republic of Azerbaijan: "I cannot rely on the remarks of the Zionist news agency and take a position. Our position regarding the Zionist regime is clear and our relations within the framework of neighborly relations have clear principles and foundations."
About Iranian deputy FM's trip to Baku, he said: "This trip was made to participate in the meeting of the leaders of the contact group of the Non-Alignment Movement on the issue of the world after coronavirus. This trip is a good opportunity to have bilateral meetings and discussions with the high officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the relations between the two countries and the current state of relations between the two countries. In addition to participating in the aforementioned meeting, Mehdi Safari has had three important meetings. During this trip, Safari met with the foreign minister, the assistant to the president for foreign policy affairs, and the deputy foreign minister. In these meetings, developments related to the Embassy of Azerbaijan have been discussed."
Kanaani, in response to Iran Press's question about today's meeting of the Council of Governors and its effect on the sanctions-lifting talks, said: "Today's meeting of the agency is within the framework of routine programs and is only limited to Iran."
He added: "Various issues will be raised in today's meeting of the agency, and the issue of Iran and Grossi's trip to Tehran is one of them.
Kanaani emphasized:" In today's meeting of the Council of Governors, the Secretary General of the International Atomic Energy Agency will present quarterly and six-monthly reports on the countries' nuclear issues. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the hope that due to the visit of Rafael Grossi to Tehran and the agreements reached with IAEO the process of technical talks will continue and the remaining issues will be resolved."
