Iran Press/ Middle East: Ali Larijani had a meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Monday and submitted a letter from the Iranian President to Aoun in which Hassan Rouhani called for expansion of Tehran-Beirut ties.
The letter explored ways of expanding relations and President Rouhani invited his Lebanese counterpart to travel to Iran.
During the meeting, Larijani emphasized Iran's stance on the need for the return of Palestinian refugees and Syrian refugees to their homeland, as well as the rejection of their permanent residence in Lebanon.
Permanent resettlement of Palestinian refugees and Syrian refugees in Lebanon is in violation of the constitution and UN Security Council resolutions including resolution 149 calling for the return of refugees to their country.
Larijani and Aoun exchanged views on the situation in the West Asia, recent developments in the Syrian army’s advances in Aleppo and Idlib provinces, the importance of stability and security in the country, the situation of refugees, as well as the current situation in Iran and Lebanon.
Ali Larijani congratulated the Lebanese President on forming a new government, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to help Lebanon improve its economic situation.
The Speaker added that Iran and Lebanon can develop commercial and financial exchanges and cooperate directly or multilaterally in the utilities, gas, agricultural, oil and petrochemical industries.
Ali Larijani also met with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri, in which the two sides stressed on further cooperation and deepening bilateral ties.

Iran's Parliament Speaker had a separate meeting with the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Ziad Al-Nakhalah in Beirut.
The two sides talked about the Palestine issue in general and the plan so-called the 'Deal of the Century'.
Larijani, who arrived in Beirut on Monday from Damascus, had earlier met with Syrian President Bashar al-Asad and Speaker of the People's Council of Syria Hammouda Sabbagh.
