Tehran (IP) - The Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters of Iran says Iran is the leading country in the fight against drug trafficking, adding that 90% of the opium, 48% of the morphine, and 26% of the heroin in the whole world have been discovered by Iran.

Iran PressIran news: During a press conference, Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni said: "Iran has a neighbor that produces the highest amount of narcotic drugs in the world, and during the 20 years of occupation of Afghanistan, the production of narcotic drugs in the country has increased 50 times and reached 9,500 tons. Unfortunately, with the support of the US, the production of industrial drugs has also increased in Afghanistan."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Momeni pointed out that the average age of drug use is 24 years, and with the implementation of the Life Helpers project, the trend of reducing the age of drug use has stopped.

Referring to efforts to treat addicts, Momeni said that 13 addiction treatment centers with a capacity of 9,000 people were opened in the country last year, which six of them are located in Tehran, and their capacity has increased by 48%.

The Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters of Iran asserted: "Last year, drug trafficking gangs saw a loss of 19 thousand billion tomans, which this loss has increased by 48% compared to last year."

Momeni stated: "Security is a social product that depends on interaction. In this regard, different people and institutions will be used. Three approaches in the field of people's participation in the process of preventing drug use, using knowledge-based companies and prioritizing the issue of prevention are on the agenda."

Momeni concluded: "The government cannot solve the issue of drugs alone and should seek help from various institutions in this regard."
