Tehran (IP) - Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Saeed Rasouli said that 63 projects will be inaugurated to enhance the capacity and safety of railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 'Government Week'.

Iran PressIran news: Attending a press conference on the occasion of 'Government Week', Rasouli stated that these projects value more than 555 billion Tomans.

He also referred to the indigenous production and said that 788 locomotives were manufactured by the Iranian factories.

The deputy minister went on to say that based on a signed agreement between Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Iran Railways (IRIR), 30 Ambulance will be built and added to 'Rail Emergency' since the railway system is a secure way of transferring the wounded from incidents and crises.

Referring to the coronavirus pandemic, Rasouli added that by establishing disinfection tunnels, our neighboring countries could make sure that health protocols are observed and goods transportation by cargo trains could resume.

Iran is a member of the International Union of Railways (UIC) and shares its experience in fighting coronavirus with other countries, although COVID-19 had undeniable effects on transportation and tourism industry, he concluded.
