Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blasted the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for violating his own country's laws and trying to sell military equipment to the UAE.

Iran PressIran news: "Outlaw US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has no qualms about violating his own country's laws," Zarif wrote in a tweet on Monday.

"Standing next to the world's number 1 nuclear threat, he declares his desire to flood our region with even more US weapons—all while trying to impede lawful normalization of Iran's defense cooperation with the world," said the Iranian foreign minister.

According to The New York Times, the Trump administration is bypassing arms control pact, planning sales of F-35 stealth fighters, and advanced drones to the Emiratis.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stood firmly behind US efforts to sell advanced weaponry to the United Arab Emirates while reassuring Israel it was committed to maintaining its qualitative military edge in West Asia.

“We have a 20-plus-year security relationship with the United Arab Emirates as well, where we have provided them with technical assistance and military assistance and we will now continue to review that process," Pompeo said after meeting in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
