Iran to pre-purchase COVID-19 vaccine from manufacturing countries: Rouhani

Tehran (IP) - Iran's president stressed that protecting people's health is a priority and for this reason, in addition to the efforts to develop a coronavirus vaccine in the country, the necessary plans should be made to pre-purchase vaccines from other countries.

Iran Press/Iran News: Speaking on Thursday at a meeting of the heads of committees of the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus, Hassan Rouhani clarified the report of the Treatment Committee on the progress made in obtaining COVID-19 vaccine and at the same time reviewing pre-purchasing of the vaccine from the manufacturing countries, saying: "Protecting people's health is a priority and for this reason, in addition to the efforts to develop a vaccine in the country, the necessary plans should be made to pre-purchase vaccines from other countries."

Rouhani stated: "In this regard, and in order to provide the vaccine, both vaccine manufacturing and pre-purchase are underway, and if this vaccine is manufactured by any country, we will definitely pre-purchase it."

During the meeting, President Rouhani was briefed by the heads of the education and treatment committees on the process of supervising the implementation of health protocols in the national entrance examination throughout the country and appreciated the efforts of the treatment committee and the Ministry of Health in screening students before and after the entrance exam.

Stating that the education of the country's children is very important,  Rouhani said: "Experiences of reopening businesses, Ramadan ceremonies, holding entrance exams and Muharram mourning rituals should be used for the new school year."

The president added: "As we did not allow coronavirus to close our businesses, postpone the entrance exam and prevent Muharram mourning rituals, we should not allow disruption in the education process of the country's students by strict observance of health protocols to ensure and maintain the health of students."

The president also appreciated the efforts and careful supervision of the organizers and supervisors of holding the examination and stated, "Yesterday, people and especially students played an important role in combatting coronavirus and successful holding of the entrance exam by strictly following the health instructions, and I hope this trend will continue today and in the next two days."

The President also appreciated the cooperation of different parts of society, especially the organizers of mourning ceremonies, and stressed that by strictly following health protocols, the Iranian nation will be the flag bearers of Imam Hussein (AS) and express their passion and devotion to the Shia Imams and Imam Hussein (AS).

Rouhani added: "According to an old tradition, some citizens used to travel to their hometowns to participate in the traditional mourning ceremony for the martyrs, and I ask them to refrain from doing so due to the special circumstances we are facing this year."
