Iran Press/Iran News: In a telephone conversation on Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif congratulated Jeyhun Bayramov on his appointment as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Emphasizing the expansion of bilateral relations, Zarif expressed his regret over the recent clashes between Azeri and Armenian forces and the deaths of a number of soldiers in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He reiterated the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to mediate and reduce tensions between the two sides.
Bayramov, 47, who had been serving as education minister since April 2018, has been appointed to the post in line with the decree of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
The longtime Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov was dismissed from his position in the wake of the border conflict with Armenia, which escalated on Sunday.
Mammadyarov, who had been on the post since 2004, was dismissed a day after Aliyev publicly criticized him at a government session for his approach in dealing with the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
