Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking at the official operation ceremony on Monday via video conference, Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami described the achievement as a role model for boosting cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan.
"Taking advantage of the vital plan, while developing relations in the framework of ECO's infrastructure and development plans, and acting within the framework of the Ashgabat transit agreement, as well as the agreement of the Caspian littoral states and the Silk Road, paves the way for strengthening transit cooperation in the region and between the two countries," Eslami said.
The official added that Iran's government has been able to control the coronavirus in the country by cutting off the chain of transmission of the disease, and has provided a platform for trade with its neighbours by taking practical measures.
"Disinfection facilities are set up and health protocols are being observed in all of Iran's borders with neighbouring countries, including Turkmenistan," Eslami added.
Minister of Roads and Urban Development, and the Chairman of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan went on to say that according to development plans of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sarakhs, and the recent resolution of the Parliament to create a free trade zone in this region, it is a historic and valuable opportunity to attract huge investments which will result in more interactions between the two countries, at this border point, and encouraging all actors in the field of trade, international transport and transit and consequently economic prosperity of the two nations.
The new joint car bridge is located on the border point between Turkmenistan and Iran's Sarakhs city in the northeast of the country in Khorasan Razavi province.
Minister of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan Rahim Gandymov, for his part, said, "Great efforts have been made to make Central Asia a crossroads for trade and transportation."
The official added that the development of railroads and roads strengthens relations between the two countries.
He concluded that the opening of the Sarakhs-Sarakhs car border bridge, a 96-meter-long, 15-meter-wide border bridge, built in accordance with international standards, is a new step in the development of relations between the two countries.
Official operation ceremony of Sarakhs-Sarakhs new border bridge was held on Monday with the presence of the senior officials of the two countries, including Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami and Minister of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan Rahim Gandymov.
