Magnitude 5 quake hits Iran-Iraq border region at Ilam

Tehran ( IP) - An earthquake of magnitude 5 struck the Iran-Iraq border region at the Saleh Abad region in Mehran city on Wednesday at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), Iranian Seismological Center reported.

Iran Press/Iran News: According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at 12:46:52 local time (08:16:52) GMT and had 4 aftershocks so far in the western Ilam province.

The epicenter of the quake appears to be about 52 km (32 miles) west of ?l?m, Iran, and 140 km (86 miles) east of Iraqi capital Baghdad.

There was no immediate information on casualties or damage from the quake, which felt in Iran’s western Ilam province.
