Iran ready to share experiences in anti-COVID-19 campaign: IRCS Chief

Tehran (IP) - The Head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, in a meeting with Switzerland's Ambassador to Tehran, referred to the experiences of Iranian scientists in the fight against COVID-19 and voiced the country's readiness to cooperate with Swiss universities and scientific research centers.

Iran PressIran News: During the meeting on Wednesday, Karim Hemmati explained the Iranian Red Crescent's services to curb the outbreak of Coronavirus at a meeting with Switzerland's Ambassador to Tehran, Markus Leitner. 

"Using the capacity of the Red Crescent's forces, more than 21 million people were screened at the exit and entrance checkpoints of the Iranian cities, of which 14,000 were identified with suspicious symptoms of the virus and referred to medical centers," Hemmati said. 

The head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society also noted the country's high medical staff's ability to contain the deadly coronavirus despite cruel US sanctions, stressing: "Humanitarian diplomacy is an important point to consider."

The two sides exchanged views on procurement of some items and equipment needed to fight against the Coronavirus, including personal protective equipment in Red Crescent's companies and the provision of packages and hygiene items for 500,000 special patients and cancer patients.

Switzerland's Ambassador to Tehran also noted the Embassy of Switzerland's close cooperation with the Iranian Red Crescent Society, adding that Swiss companies operating in Iran that are active in the financial sector and sending medical equipment were willing to cooperate with the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

Markus Leitner stressed that: "Due to the importance of humanitarian diplomacy, Switzerland will seek to expand its relationship and engagement with the Iranian Red Crescent Society for the development of humanitarian services."

The number of new daily cases of novel coronavirus disease (llk,k) has been decreasing in Iran, the Government Spokesman said on Wednesday.

Iranian Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour announced that as of Wednesday, more than 76,000 people in the country have definitely been infected with the coronavirus, more than 4,700 people have died due to the virus and nearly 50,000 have recovered.

COVID-19 has infected nearly 2,080,000 people around the world and killed at least 134,000 people, while more than 515,000 have recovered.
