Comments made by the Leader of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, at a meeting with staff and organizers of the Congress of Martyrs of South Khorasan province on 5 November 2018, were published today (Tuesday 11 December) in the city of Birjand, South Khorasan, where the Congress is being held.

According to an Iran Press report, the Leader described south Khorasan province as "a province of devout and faithful Muslims, and a province of scientists", and praised the enthusiastic presence of the people of this province in both the Islamic Revolution and the eight-year-imposed war on Iran.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei added: "Commemorating and paying homage to the martyrs (of sacred defense) is an honourable thing to do, and the country needs this commemoration."

Turning to the enemy's soft war against Iran, the Leader said: "The enemy will not succeed in its soft war, just as it has not succeeded in the hard war against the Islamic Republic."

Turning to enemy interference and attack on spiritual affairs of Iran, the Leader said: "The revolutionary spirit of the Iranian people, especially young Iranians, which is quite evident throughout the length and breadth of this country, means the  enemy attack on spiritual values is also bound to fail."

Paying homage to the martyrs, the Leader said: "The beloved martyrs offered their lives for the defense of Islamic revolution and Islamic Iran, and even today, the martyrs are defending the nation and Islam with their 'identity and spirituality'. The sacred defense era will never end. It is a reality which is moving forward and progressing." 211/103
