A senior Iranian MP, a member of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, has emphasised that Iran's legal case against the United States is very strong indeed, and that there is every prospect of the International Court of Justice (ICJ ) ruling in Iran's favour.

Iran News- In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday, senior parliamentarian, Hossein Naghavi Hosseini, said if the International Court of Justice (ICJ ) at the Hague is not swayed by political considerations , then the US should be held accountable by the ICJ for its unlawful behaviour, its failure to abide by international agreements, its unlawful re-imposition of unilateral sanctions, and abrogation of an international agreement.

Naghavi Hosseini said next Tuesday the ICJ will consider Iran's complaint against the US , and if political considerations don't influence it in any way, then certainly the ICJ will rule against the United States and in Iran's favour, given Iran's very strong legal case against  Washington.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Naghavi Hosseini said the World Court (ICJ) is an international court of law which operates independently and is not influenced by pressure from various governments and by political considerations.

The senior Iranian MP added:  "United States not only dishonoured its commitments and obligations under the JCPOA (the Joint Comprehensive plan of Action) , it actually withdrew from the accord unlawfully.  The US thus violated international law on both counts !!"

Iran has called on the UN's top court to order the United States to immediately lift sanctions re-imposed by President Donald Trump in May claiming they are causing "irreparable prejudice" .

Tehran filed its case with the International Court of Justice, arguing that the renewed sanctions, which had been lifted under a 2015 nuclear deal, are illegal.
