The Leader of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has appointed rear admiral Alireza Tangsiri as the new top commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to an Iran Press report, in his decree on 23  August, the Leader appointed Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri as the top commander of the IRGC navy.

Ayatollah Khamenei called on Tangsiri to employ and train skilled forces, to use the most advanced naval equipment available, to provide naval personnel with excellent training and skills, to take into account the livelihood needs of his personnel, to work towards an agile fast-reacting naval force, as well as an ever-growing and vigilant naval force in full coordination within the big family of  IRGC, Baseej volunteer forces, and the Iranian armed forces and the Iranian Navy.

He also thanked Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi for his efforts and services during his term as the IRGC Navy commander. Rear Admiral Fadavi has held the post since 2010.

In a separate decree on Thursday, the Leader appointed Fadavi to the position of IRGC deputy coordinator, replacing Jamaloddin Aberoumand.
