Tehran (IP)- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi held a phone call with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Tuesday.

Iran PressIran news: During their phone conversation, the President of Iran emphasized the significance of Iran and Russia's membership in crucial regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of implementing the agreements made between the two countries, including the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, as suitable grounds for strengthening cooperation between the two nations.

President Raisi once again offered congratulations to President Putin for securing the trust of the Russian people to be re-elected as the Russian President and expressed hope that the new Russian government will lay a suitable groundwork for further expansion of relations and constructive cooperation between the two nations in various fields.

The President of Russia has also congratulated the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of the Persian New Year. He also mentioned that the draft comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia is near finalization. Additionally, the President highlighted the successful meeting of the Joint Commission for economic cooperation in Tehran and the 77% growth in trade in goods between the two countries as positive signs of the improvement in Tehran-Moscow cooperation.

Vladimir Putin believes that the presence of Iran and Russia in the BRICS and SCO is an excellent opportunity to deepen interactions between the two countries. He also mentioned that Russia is ready to work more effectively with Iran in the field of Israel's attacks on Gaza, as they share common positions on this matter.

The two presidents have also agreed to further coordinate actions by Russia and Iran on multilateral platforms, including within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS group, which Iran has joined as a full-fledged participant.

Iran became a full member of BRICS on January 1, 2024. Tehran had submitted its application for membership in June 2022.

On July 4, 2023, at the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of the Heads of State, Iran became the ninth full member of the organization. Tehran applied to join the SCO in 2008. In September 2021, the procedure for its admission to the group was launched, and in 2022 a memorandum was signed on the obligations of the Iranian side in connection with joining the association.
