Iran Press/Asia: The radar system, capable of detecting and tracking threats such as ballistic missiles and aircraft from up to 8,000 kilometers away, will enhance India’s ability to respond to emerging security challenges. This acquisition aligns with India’s push toward self-reliance in defense technology and its commitment to strengthening regional and global security measures.
The deal involves close cooperation between Indian and Russian defense sectors, with the radar system being developed by Russia’s Almaz-Antey, a leading radar manufacturer. Recent high-level negotiations in New Delhi and Bengaluru emphasized India’s industrial participation, aligning the project with the government’s “Make in India” initiative.
Approximately 60% of the radar system’s components are expected to be manufactured domestically, supporting India’s drive for self-sufficiency in defense production while reinforcing the long-standing defense ties between the two nations.
The radar is likely to be stationed in Chitradurga, Karnataka, a strategic location already hosting advanced defense and aerospace facilities.
The announcement coincides with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Russia for bilateral talks. Singh’s trip included attending the launch of a cutting-edge frigate developed through India-Russia collaboration, as well as high-level meetings with Russian officials to discuss ongoing and future defense initiatives, including the radar deal.
