New York (IP) - In a stark address to global leaders at the United Nations’ annual summit, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres painted a grim picture of Gaza’s ongoing humanitarian catastrophe, describing the situation as a “non-stop nightmare.”

Iran Press/America: His words echoed the gravity of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, with Israel's genocide in Gaza threatening to spread beyond its borders.

“Gaza is a non-stop nightmare that threatens to take the entire region with it. Look no further than Lebanon,” Guterres cautioned, referring to the mounting hostilities by Israel following its massacre during the past two days, in which at least 564 people were killed and 1850 others were wounded. Hezbollah resistance group has also launched retaliatory attacks deep inside the occupied territories. Guterres warned of the dire consequences Lebanon could face, calling on world leaders to prevent the country from becoming “another Gaza.”

The Secretary-General’s message also took aim at the broader global landscape, decrying what he termed a growing “level of impunity” around the world. “The level of impunity in the world is politically indefensible and morally intolerable,” Guterres told the General Assembly, highlighting the alarming number of governments and actors that seem to operate without accountability. He condemned the increasing entitlement to a "get out of jail free card," warning that such impunity only fuels further conflict and suffering.
