Russia's foreign ministry has strongly criticized the US State Department's annual report to Congress on issues related to the implementation of international treaties and agreements including JCPOA.

Iran Press/Europe: Russia's foreign ministry, in a statement on Saturday evening, criticized the US government's approach to the Iran nuclear deal 2015 known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, Convention on the Prohibition of Bacteriological Weapons, and the politicization of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Regarding Iran's nuclear deal, Russia's foreign ministry said the United States was biased in its dealings with Iran's nuclear program, as it selectively interpreted its commitments to arms control, disarmament, and nuclear non-proliferation.

"The US approach is clear. If it is impossible to interpret the facts in the desired context, it is not necessary to pay attention to it. An example is JCPOA and the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which have been openly violated by Washington, while the State Department's report to Congress has been completely silent on them." the statement added.

The statement said, "Russia had previously commented on the US approach. Concerns that Washington is covering up its violations and illegal actions are based on speculation, not facts."

"These speculations are based on a lack of confidence in the International Atomic Energy Agency's verification system, which apparently does not serve US political directions to deprive Iran of its legal rights under Article 4 of the NPT to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes," it stated.

Russia's foreign ministry says: "The US State Department's report explicitly states that Iran did not engage in any activities related to the design and manufacture of nuclear weapons during the period the report was drafted (in 2019). But for unknown reasons, the US government sees this as one of its achievements and assures in the text of the report that it will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon in the future."

Russia's foreign ministry said: "It is clear that the reality is distorted. The US policy of maximum pressure on Iran has nothing to do with the issue. Tehran adheres to its obligations under the NPT and has the most inspections among the member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Tehran continues to fulfill its obligations."

"Undoubtedly, if any non-nuclear country produced or acquired a nuclear weapon, it would violate its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. It is unfortunate that the United States remembers this only in the case of Iran, and when the US Army deploys its nuclear weapons in non-nuclear countries in Europe and conducts joint exercises with them, the White House forgets its obligations and prevents the International Atomic Energy Agency from monitoring and verifying these actions," the statement said.
