Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to International Organizations to Vienna Kazem Gharibabadi

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to International Organizations to Vienna sent a letter to the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, (UNODC) as well as other resident ambassadors, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran has continued to lead the fight against drug trafficking, despite illegal and unilateral US sanctions.

Iran PressEurope: Referring to the effective, comprehensive and uninterrupted measures taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fight against drug trafficking, reaching the record of 950 tons discovery of various types of drugs in 2019, despite unilateral and illegal US sanctions and lack of international cooperation, Kazem Gharibabadi called on the United Nations and member states to act jointly in identifying these actions and supporting Iran's activities.

According to this letter, drug detections in Iran have increased by 20% in 2019 compared to 2018.

Over 3,000 Iranian people have been martyred in the fight against drug trafficking.

The United Nations has called Iran a leader in the fight against drug trafficking.
