President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani (R) and Mustafa al-Kazemi (L)

Iraq (IP) - President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region welcomed Mustafa al-Kazemi's candidacy for the post of Iraqi Prime Minister.

Iran PressMiddle East: "Today, our dear country is facing difficult conditions and challenges. Therefore, we call on all political groups to set aside their differences and reach a real agreement on how to form a federal government based on legal principles that will ensure the stability of the government and the fulfillment of its obligations,” Nechirvan Barzani said in a statement on Wednesday.

He stressed the need for stability in politics and security of Iraq, saying that this requires the formation of a new government with the support of all Iraqi groups.

Barzani added: "Therefore, we welcome the candidacy of Mustafa al-Kazemi for the post of Prime Minister in Iraq’s government by political groups and we ask everyone to continue to support him until the end of his mission to form the government as soon as possible."

The five major Iraqi Shiite factions, including Al-Fatah (Hadi al-Amiri), State of Law (Nouri al-Maliki), National Wisdom Movement (Ammar al-Hakim), Ataa Movement (Falih Al-Fayyadh) and the Islamic Virtue Party recently agreed to nominate al-Kazemi as a candidate for the Shiite faction to be the Prime Minister.

Muqtada al-Sadr, a supporter of the Sairun faction, also sent messages confirming Al-Kazemi's candidacy after Adnan al-Zurufi, who was missioned by the president to form a transitional government, lost the support of some factions.

According to the reports, Iraqi President Barham Salih, who had previously conditioned the removal of al-Zurufi to the consensus of the Shiite political factions, has agreed to remove him from the prime ministerial position.
