Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Takes the Oath of Office

New Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq took the oath of office, during a joint session of the two Omani chambers and the Council of Defense, in accordance with the Omani Statute.

Iran Press/Middle East: Oman's Culture Minister Haitham bin Tariq al-Said was on Saturday 11 January named as the successor of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said, who died at the age of 79 after ruling the Arab country for nearly five decades.

The newly crowned Sultan addressed the nation, emphasizing that he would move on the track left by the late Sultan and the recognized constants of Oman's foreign policy, based on peaceful coexistence among different nations and peoples, good neighborhood, non-interference in other countries affairs and respecting their sovereignty and cooperation, in all domains.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who has traveled to Muscat on behalf of the Iranian government to attend the commemoration ceremony of the late Sultan Qaboos, met with the new Omani Sultan, Haitham bin Tariq.
