Two loud blasts were heard in Baghdad early Saturday evening, Reuters witnesses said. It was not immediately possible to confirm the causes or locations.
According to Iraqi security sources, a rocket has exploded inside the Green Zone of the US Embassy in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. According to local sources, there was no immediate information on the number of casualties in the incident.
Sky News Arabia reported that a missile hit the Green Zone and blocked the entrance to the road leading to the embassy.
US helicopters were seen in the sky over Baghdad soon after the blasts were heard.
Iraqi police announced that Katusha rocket falls inside Baghdad Green Zone, no casualties reported.
According to Iraqi police, mortar falls in Baghdad's 'Jadriya' neighborhood left 5 people injured. Al-Jadriya is a neighborhood in Baghdad along the Tigris River and south of the Green Zone.
Meanwhile, Iraqi sources said three rockets have hit the Balad Air Force Base which is home to US military forces, in Salahuddin province north of Baghdad. 101/205/211
