Iran Press/Middle East: Iraj Masjedi, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Baghdad, wrote on his Twitter page on Saturday night after meeting with the new Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi about the details of the meeting.
He mentioned that in the meeting with Al-Kazemi continuation of measures regarding the 1975 Algiers agreement, banking cooperation, the Khorramshahr-Basra railway and visas for citizens of the two countries were discussed, and the Iraqi PM promised to cooperate and appreciate the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fight against ISIS.
"Kazemi considered Iran and Iraq as two friendly and brotherly countries," he added.
In a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi stressed the Arab country's desire to establish the best relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and all neighboring countries.
The Iraqi Prime Minister added that the country would not become a haven or a place for terrorism or a place to invade another country or a place to settle disputes.
Earlier, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Ali-Akbar Velayati, the top advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei on foreign affairs, offered their congratulations to Iraqi nation and Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi on the creation of a new government.
The Iraqi Parliament voted on Wednesday night to approve the list of ministerial candidates proposed by Mustafa al-Kazemi, ending weeks of political deadlock.
Out of the 22 nominees proposed by Al-Kazemi, the Iraqi lawmakers passed 15 ministers and rejecting five others, while postponing a decision on Oil and Foreign Affairs Ministries to another time.
The Iraqi new Prime Minister is assigned to prepare the grounds for the snap parliamentary election, managing Iraq amid health and economic challenges due to coronavirus and global drop of oil price, and submitting the 2020 budget plan to the parliament, within one year.
Adil al-Mahdi, previous prime minister of Iraq, resigned on November 29, 2019.
