Iran Press/Iran News: Speaking at a press conference via video conferencing on Wednesday, Saeed Namaki referred to the meeting of regional health ministers with the presence of Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, saying: "18 days ago, we held another meeting to discuss the situation with these health ministers, and since then we have been able to reduce the number of new daily cases by 53%. Also, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in our country has decreased by one third in the last 18 days."
Namaki noted that the Director-General of the WHO thanked Iran for launching the National Task Force for fighting against Corona and screening 70 million people.
Referring to Iran's achievements against coronavirus under the US cruel and unilateral sanctions, he said: "It is a great achievement for us to receive such an honor in the face of sanctions, but we called on the World Health Organization to take steps to lift the sanctions."
In the end, referring to the meeting of world health ministers, which will be held on Thursday, the Minister of Health added: "The meeting will be attended by representatives from six regions of the World Health Organization to present the achievements, and I am proud to be, as a representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to present a report about achievements of our country in combating coronavirus."
The global case tally for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 has climbed to more than 2.5 million. The death toll rose to nearly 180,000, while more than 705,000 have recovered from the disease.
In Iran, 85,996 people have been infected with the coronavirus, 5,391 people have died due to the virus and more than 63,000 have recovered.
