President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani

Tehran (IP) - In response to the discriminatory approach of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during the difficult times of dealing with coronavirus, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran said the fund must fulfill its obligations.

Iran Press/Iran News: Hassan Rouhani stressed on Thursday that the International Monetary Fund should not be influenced by the mischief of the enemies of the Iranian nation and should perform its main duty.

In a letter to the head of the International Monetary Fund, Abdul-Nasser Hemmati, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), expressed hope that in this critical historical moment (the fight against coronavirus), the US opposition would not harm the Fund's professional reputation.

Helping and granting loans to countries is the most important task of the IMF, and loans are mainly provided from the payment of quotas of countries to participate in this fund and are paid to countries in need.

The IMF has three important tasks: First, to pursue financial and economic developments in 189 member states; Second, to provide advice to member states and third; To provide short-term loans and to help countries facing financial difficulties.

These days, the coronavirus has spread to all parts of the world, including countries that need new funding to fight the deadly virus, and here is the third special task of the International Monetary Fund to grant loans to member states involved in the fight with coronavirus.

In the same context, the IMF announced its readiness to provide prompt and unconditional assistance to the countries affected by Corona and its members a month after the outbreak of corona in the world.

Following the announcement of the readiness of the IMF, the CBI requested the use of its right to receive financial support from the Fund, but in the end, Iran's name was not included in the final list of the International Monetary Fund for loans.

Following the US veto, the IMF has shirked its third major task in providing loans to member states, including Iran, and has shown that it is influenced by US policy rather than involving in its mission.

However, the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the founding members of the International Monetary Fund and has a good financial performance, and in such circumstances, this monetary and financial institution must do what is expected of it.

In an interview with CNN, Iran's Vice President for Economic Affairs Mohammad Nahavandian said: "No country in the International Monetary Fund has the right to veto, and the fund's policy is to be fair in assessing and approving loan applications."

Following the US opposition, the IMF did not include Iran in the list of primary states seeking loans, but solidarity, management, and global responsibility are the only ways to combat the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The impact of the IMF on a country that is currently disrupting a global campaign to fight coronavirus will effectively divert the fund from its specialized functions.

Iran, a founding member of the International Monetary Fund, is currently at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus, and the fund's assistance and cooperation are influencing the quality of the fight, making it more effective in the global fight against the COVID-19.
