Iran, Russia hold phone conversation on Yemeni-Syrian developments

Tehran (IP) - Iran's senior assistant to foreign minister for special political affairs Ali Asghar Khaji, discussed the latest developments in Syria and Yemen in a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin on Wednesday.

Iran Press/Iran news: The two sides discussed the situation in the region, including the latest developments in the political arena in Yemen and Syria, and supported the proposal of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to stop hostilities in order to focus on fighting against the coronavirus.

In his Proposal, Guterres has also called other countries and the international community to provide Yemen and Syria with necessary assistance.

In the conversation, Ali Asghar Khaji and Sergei Vershinin also stressed the need for continuation of consultations between Iran and Russia on regional developments.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has recently proposed a ceasefire in all wars, including the one in Yemen so that the world can fight the coronavirus with all its might.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi on March 27, welcomed the proposal of the UN Secretary-General.

Mousavi said: "Yemen has been exposed to the worst humanitarian catastrophe as a result of a devastating Saudi-imposed war. The aggression over the past five years have blocked aid routes for the oppressed people in the country, and the spread of COVID-19 has worsened concerns over the lack of facilities and deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the country."
