Tehran (IP) - The Spokesman for Iran's Health Ministry, Kianoush Jahanpour, has emphasized that US sanctions target ordinary Iranians, including patients who are in need of medicines, the most vulnerable in society.

Iran PressIran news: Asked what the aim of US sanctions against Iran are, Kianoush Jahanpour, the head of public relations and information centre of Iran's Health Ministry, in an exclusive interview on Sunday with Iran Press emphasized that the main aim of the US sanctions against Iran is to put maximum pressure on the Iranian people and the Iranian government.

Jahanpour added: "US sanctions are targeting the most vulnerable in our society. They are targeting patients in poor health, who are in need of medicines, and medical equipment, and this is really terrible."

Elaborating further, the Health Ministry spokesman said: "We produce inside the country the vast majority, the bulk of medicines needed by our patients. However we do need to import some medicines and medical equipment, and US sanctions are creating problems for us, particularly for those who are in need of these medicines, the most vulnerable in our society."

"The US either directly through threatening companies engaging in providing medicines, medical equipment, and pharmaceutical industry or indirectly through sanctioning banking interactions and financial exchange, and international banking relations created difficulties for the Iranian nation in recent months," he added.

"Their intention was to practice pressure on people directly so that the pressures would lead to public discontentment, but the result of the pressures was the difficulties created for Iranian women and children," Jahanpour said.

The US anti-human rights and anti-international law have been completely clear in the recent months, he noted.

Jahanpour said the US is  not committed to either international rule or human-rights rule during the recent months particularly about Iran and the Iranian people.

"Rather pressuring the ruling system, sovereignty, government and even me who is in the executive body of the country, the sanctions on Iran pressured the Iranian people in the far eastern, western, northern, and southern points of the country," he said.

Jahanpour reiterated that if there has been pressure, it has been practiced on people, patients, children and women, and poor families, not on the officials and sovereignty, but their intention is to put pressure on the people and vulnerable classes to make dissatisfaction.

Since the sanctions were not unprecedented for the Iranian people, the spokesman said, they correctly understood the issue and well knew the US and its allies' intention on the issue, and their reactions were contrary to what the US predicted.

"The issue was more spectacular in the health area, through the parallel international potentials and maximum use of internal capability, producing over 80 percent of medical raw material and over 97 percent of people's medical needs within the country, we manage to pass the route with the minimum pressure," Jahanpour elaborated.

He added that today with partial crisis of the Coronavirus in the country, supplying medicines and medical equipment will have its own difficulties, at least the process of providing people and patients with the necessary aids is delayed, yet the parallel capacities of international bodies, NGOs, and friendly countries, as well as the domestic capacities, is used.

The Health Ministry Spokesman said that the Iranian nation will pass through difficulties, but This  the US that will be shamed on for its nasty and anti-human behaviors, expressing hope that the world's bodies and NGOs see the US behaviors and reflect them to the people of the world so that they understand  how the US recklessly violates international laws and human rights.

He also expressed hope that the world will get an appropriated judgment out of these US treatments.
