Tehran (IP) - Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said that the capacity of Iran's ports has reached 240 million tons annually.

Iran PressIran news: Talking in an exclusive interview with Iran Press about Iran's plans for ocean economy, Mohammad Eslami noted that the capacity of Iranian ports has been expanded in recent years, adding that today it has reached 240 million tons per year.

"The more important matter is developing hinterlands around ports, which is associated with private sector investments," he said.

Eslami stressed that private sector investments will lead to increasing the number of cargos in ports which causes more improvements in maritime export, transit, and transportation.

"Another possible step could be making a connection between transportation systems, including railways, and ports. This matter will have a better effect on booming Iran's ocean economy," he noted. 104/207
