Iranian FM Mohammad-Javad Zarif

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said an agreement was reached with India to launch an Iranian bank's branch in the South Asian country, local media quoted him saying.

Zarif who is in India to take part in an international conference added it was also suggested that India opens a branch in the southeastern port city of Chabahar to facilitate financial exchanges between the two countries.

The Iranian minister said he had a meeting with the Indian prime minister who had a positive approach to Tehran-New Delhi relations.

He urged Iranian businesses to use national currency in their trade overseas saying Tehran regards the settlement of monetary issues with New Delhi a strategic step.

Zarif departed for Mumbai on Thursday to hold meetings with Iranian traders and local Indian officials.
