Iranian FM Spox Seyed Abbas Mousavi

Iranian Foreign Ministry has harshly criticized the new round of US sanctions against Iranian citizens and firms saying Washington is violating the UN Security Council resolution 2231 and its obligations under international law.

Iran Press/Iran News:  "The US regime will be eventually forced to come in terms with realities and concede defeat," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday.

The comments were made following after President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Friday imposing sanctions on restricting the financial resources Iran uses to support its peaceful nuclear program and defensive missile capability.

"Unfortunately, Americans have adopted a kind of unilateral, illegal and inconclusive behavior and are insisting on repeating it," he added.

The spokesman also said that the US acts have caused a trouble for the international community while it is resorting to sanctions or unusual tariffs citing political and security excuses to deal the world with an unfair trade competition.

The recent sanctions, Mousavi said, are aimed at disturbing business activities of a majority of Iranians.

The US regime has already reinstated all the sanctions that were eased under the 2015 nuclear deal after it unilateral withdrew from the agreement in 2018.

However, the new sanctions were imposed after Iran pounded US bases in Iraq with missiles in retaliation for assassination by the US military of the Commander of Quds Force of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Lt. General Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad.
