Iran Press/Iran news: The Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has chided US president Donald Trump for threatening to deliberately target cultural sites in Iran, saying such action would constitute a war crime.
In a tweet on Sunday Zarif referred to Jus cogens (which in Latin means 'compelling law') referring to certain fundamental, overriding principles of international law, and the fact that Donald Trump has once again threatened to breach fundamental international law.
The Iranian foreign minister tweeted: "Having committed grave breaches of int'l law in Friday's cowardly assassinations, @realdonaldtrump threatens to commit again new breaches of JUS COGENS; -Targeting cultural sites is a WAR CRIME; -Whether kicking or screaming, end of US malign presence in West Asia has begun."
In his Sunday tweet Zarif also referred to the end of US malign presence in West Asia, arguing that by assassinating prominent Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, the United States has crossed a red line and that we shall soon see the end of US presence in West Asia.
