Iranian President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated a key railway link in East Azerbaijan province on Wednesday morning, in the northwest of the country.

Iran Press/Iran news: The Mianeh-Bostanabad railroad, which is part of a bigger Mianeh-Tabriz railway link, connecting Mianeh to Tabriz, was inaugurated on Wednesday.

Tabriz is the capital of East Azerbaijan province and is a major business and industry hub in the vicinity of Turkey and the South Caucasus.

Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the railway, President described preparing the infrastructure for people’s welfare and working hard for the development of the country the government’s main promise and said, "We will do our best for the development of the country and creating the infrastructure, and this path will not stop,” Iran Press reported.

The President stressed that the Mianeh-Bostan Abad Railway should continue to Tabriz and the project be completed, adding, "I have emphasized to the Minister of Roads and Urban Development and he promised that by the end of next year the railway will be connected to Tabriz so that people of Tabriz can have shorter trips to their destinations, including to Mashhad and make pilgrimage to Imam Reza (PBUH).”

The new Mianeh-Tabriz railway would shorten the train travel between the Iranian capital Tehran and Tabriz by 114 kilometers while it would hugely facilitate transport between east and northwest of Iran.

Authorities said construction for the remaining part of the railway, a 42-kilometer line from Bostanabad to Tabriz, would conclude after March 2020.
