Iran's Judiciary Spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaeili in a press conference on Tuesday in Tehran said that the actions taken by the United States, Canada, and those countries are falsely claiming that they are defenders of human rights, are completely unreasonable and politically motivated."

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Judiciary Spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaeili in his press conference on Tuesday referred to the recent unrest in different cities of Iran, saying, "The policy of the Judiciary in recent events is to ensure the public safety, safeguarding the interest of citizens, and to combat violence and looting of property."

He also answered Iran Press Correspondent's question about the Universal Periodic Review on human rights and said, "The actions taken by the United States, Canada, and those countries are falsely claiming that they are defenders of human rights, are completely unreasonable and politically motivated."

"They usually make unilateral or multilateral decisions that are not legally valid because these are politically motivated, the spokesman noted.

In November of this year, the Universal Periodic Review meeting was held at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva,

The Judiciary's human rights headquarters staff and the Deputy Head of the Judiciary and officials from various departments of relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Intelligence Ministry attended that meeting.

Iran's Judiciary Spokesman added, "The mood of the meeting was quite different from the previous ones, with 85 percent of the countries welcomed the recent activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran especially on some key issues including children, women and the bill on protecting women rights which has been presented to the government and parliament by the Judiciary, amending the Anti-Narcotics Act, reducing the number of executions by 90 percent, and granting citizenship to children whose mother is Iranian and their father is foreign citizen."

Gholamhossein Esmaeili stated that "These actions angered the United States, Israel, and some other countries; however those who were intelligent knew that the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the countries adhering to human rights standards." 205/219
