Iranian Judiciary Chief Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi has released a statement about petrol price hike in Iran and its consequences.

Iran's Judiciary Chief has released a statement concerning recent decision on fuel consumption management by three heads of the Government, hike of petrol price in Iran and its consequences.

Iran Press/Iran news: In the statement, Iran's Judiciary Chief Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi has given some explanations about the decision on fuel prices in Iran and stressed of vigilance of the Judiciary about any attempt to abuse the situation and harming public properties, Iran Press reported.

Addressing Iran's Judiciary officials, Raisi said in the statement: "Whereas the implementation of the new decision in fuel management and petrol price hike have caused some incidents and sparked concerns in the community, the following points should be considered by Judiciary official."   

"Responding to the Government's proposal to implement fuel management plan and announcement of new gasoline price, and based on obligations to co-ordinate with the Economic Council of Heads of branches of the Government and regardless of the different experts' opinions on the plan implementation, that can be dealt with in a space free from inflammation and excitement, the judiciary is obliged to perform its legal duties to resolve potential problems in the enforcement process," he said in statement.

Pointing out to importance of the Islamic Revolution trust to Iranian people in different stages and critical periods, Raisi continued: "The Islamic Republic has the experience of making similar decisions, and talking to the public and explaining the reasons for this decision before and after taking it, is necessary make the reasons clear."

"Honorable prosecutors across the country are urged to safeguard the rights of the citizen and dignity of the people against any assault of the counter-revolutionary elements who put the security of the people and the society on jeopardy; law enforcement and security forces are asked to take decisive legal action against these elements," the statement continues.

In the other part of the statement, head of Iran's Judiciary said: "Inspection Organization of Iran is obliged to keep a close watch on the effectiveness of revenues from rising gas prices and to carry out government duties and to prevent price hikes, to continuously monitor the full implementation of government obligations to the public, including timely and regular payment of subsidies."

In the last part of the statement, Raisi tasked his first vice to form a committee consisting of the Attorney General and the Head of the Inspectorate to invite the concerning managers to follow up on such cases and to review the status of the jurisdiction and the reports received and to provide the necessary consultations.

Earlier today, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has thrown his weight behind a recent government decision to ration gasoline and increase its price.

Ayatollah Khamenei said on Sunday while he is not an expert in the field, he still supports the decision which has been made by the three branches of power, namely, executive, legislative and judicial.  

The government decided on Friday to cut gas subsidies to fund support for the poor. Gasoline in Iran still remains among the cheapest in the world, despite prices jumping 50%. 

As per the new plan, each car with a fuel card will receive a monthly ration of 60 liters for the price of 15,000 rials per liter. Every extra liter will be charged 30,000 rials.

On Saturday, President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raisi convened a session of the Supreme Council of Economic Coordination and agreed that all state bodies will fully cooperate in implementing the decision. 212/ 104
