Iran Press/Iran news: Deputy Minister of Agricultural Jihad Mohammad Ali Tahmasebi in an inauguration ceremony of the second National Date Exhibition in Bushehr on Tuesday night said, the area under cultivation of date is 253,000 hectares, with 123,000 hectares producing high-quality dates, and the rest of them are saplings.
Tahmasebi noted, at present, 39 date-producing countries with 1300000 hectares of crop produce eight million tons of crop annually, of which 1200000 tons are exported and the rest of it consumed locally, Iran Press reported.
According to the official, Iran is one of the most important countries producing high-quality dates and Bushehr province with 34500 hectares of cultivated land and production of 170000 tons of crops and exports of 17000 tons of dates in the first five months of this year is the leading producer of this product.
The date exhibition will continue until 15 November at the International Exhibition Centre in Bushehr.
