The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps statement on new US sanctions

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) condemned the US new sanctions against Iran's Armed Forces, saying that the move will strengthen Iranians' will against the enemies.

Iran Press/Iran News: In a statement published on Friday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) condemned the US new sanctions, stressing: “These sanctions against the country’s armed forces and some senior commanders are provocative and will only make the Armed Forces and defenders of the Islamic Revolution more vigorous and willing to counter the Great Satan (the US) and its allies."

“In addition to disclosing the US failure, such measures, in a reverse equation, will make the Iranians’ distrust and hatred towards them (the US officials) deeper," said the statement, adding: "Based on the existing evidence, the enemy has got tired of countering Iran.”

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury announced sanctions on the Iranian military and several top military commanders in a press release on Monday. The move coincided with the 40th anniversary of the takeover of the former US embassy in Tehran.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control said that it took action against General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammad Hussein Bagheri.

It also put sanctions on former Iran's Defense Minister Hussein Dehghan and commander of the IRGC's Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarter, Major General Gholam Ali Rashid.

The new sanctions also targeted officials at the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's Office, including its head Ayatollah Mohammadi Golpayegani, as well as the Iranian Judiciary Chief, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
