Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov met and held talks in Germany on Saturday, on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference 2020.

Iran Press/Europe: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Munich on Saturday.

The talks were held behind closed doors. Before the talks, the ministers greeted each other and shared their impressions of the conference. 

The two sides exchanged their views on the promotion and development of bilateral ties, subjects related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the latest developments in Syria especially the situation in Idlib province of northwestern Syria.

The two foreign ministers discussed the strengthening of multifaceted Russian-Iranian cooperation, among other issues.

"An in-depth exchange of views also took place on a number of issues on the international agenda, including the situation in Syria and issues related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action", the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement after the meeting on Saturday.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), often referred to as the Iran nuclear deal, was signed in 2015 by Iran, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, China and the United States.
