The Russian and Chinese Foreign Ministers have stressed that the unlawful assassination of a top Iranian General has greatly increased tensions and turmoil in the Middle East, describing the act as a clear violation of United Nations Charter.

Iran Press/Europe: The two foreign ministers discussed the possible repercussions of the US government's assassination of prominent Iranian Lieutenant General, Qassem Soleimani, who played a very pivotal role in the defeat of ISIS Takfiri terrorists in both Iraq and Syria.

Both Sergei Lavrov and Wang Yi condemned the use of violence by the United States in third countries, describing the US action as unlawful, in contravention of UN charter, and called on Washington to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries. The two foreign ministers also discussed ways of calming down the situation in the Middle East, and ways of reducing tensions.

Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, a top IRGC General, and Commander of the IRGC Quds Force, was assassinated along with several senior members of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Friday morning, 3 January, at Baghdad International airport.
