A devastating fire swept through a bag factory in the India's capital New Delhi on Sunday, killing 43 workers.

Iran Press/ Asia: The fire started at a factory space near Sadar Bazaar, New Delhi's largest wholesale market for household goods, Reuters reported.

The factory was making handbags and lots of raw material was stored inside the building, causing the fire to spread quickly.

Many of the victims were factory workers who were sleeping when the blaze began.

While the cause of the fire is not clear, police and fire officials said they were investigating whether a manufacturing unit was operating illegally in the crowded area.
