Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a context based on which Iran is to maintain cooperation with Malaysia, Wan Azizah said.
She referred to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s message submitted recently by Vice President for Women Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar saying it was about JCPOA.
“Malaysia in principle supports Iran’s nuclear agreement with world powers known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),” Wan Azizah was quoted by Malaysian media ‘Bernama’ as saying.“
Our expectation is that other countries like Malaysia, which we have had close relations with, will find innovative ways to solve this issue within the same framework,” she added referring to the message.“I would like to propose a policy dialogue together on different issues, not just the JCPOA, but issues such as combating terrorism, issues affecting the Muslim world and issues that are important to both our nations,” she reiterated.
Also, Iran's Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs, Massoumeh Ebtekar, has said the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is the symbol of negotiation.
Wan Azizah went on to say that the advancement of women in Iran is an important objective for us and working on these issues is an important narrative today.” Scientific and academic exchanges should be intensified between both countries, she added.
“Malaysia is looking forward to close cooperation with Iran, she said, adding, “We look forward to a better and closer cooperation between our countries, especially in the field of women and in fighting extremism.”
Following US President Donald Trump's announcement on May 8 to unilaterally withdraw from the nuclear deal and reinstate sanctions on Iran, President Hassan Rouhani sent envoys to countries of the world, including Malaysia, with messages on the neccesity of keeping the nuclera deal and confronting US's illegal move in this regard.
