Amid increasing tension between Washington and its' allies, US president Donald Trump said to NATO that US allies in many cases were worse than our enemies.

US president Donald Trump also said on his Thursday night MAGA rally in Great Falls, Montana that US is not responsible for every thing.

"I'm going to tell NATO you gotta start paying your bills. The United States is not going to take care of everything," US president Donald Trump said.

US president Donald Trump called out German Chancellor Angela Merkel and said he is unsure "how much protection we get by protecting you."

US president Donald Trump also mentioned the oil and gas deals E.U. nations have made with Russia and called the U.S. "the schmucks paying for the whole thing."

Germany, which is the biggest country of the E.U., European Union, Germany pays 1%. 1%. And I said, you know, [Chancellor] Angela [Merkel], I can't guarantee it, but we're protecting you and it means a lot more to you than protecting us because I don't know how much protection we get by protecting you. And then they go out and make a gas deal, oil and gas from Russia where they pay billions and billions of dollars to Russia",  Trump said, in reference to a recent pipeline deal.

Meanwhile, Germany’s defence minister recently has dismissed US accusations that her country is not spending enough on military ,saying Berlin was pushing through substantial rises to the defence budget and was already supplying more troops to the western alliance than any nation bar the US.

Last year, the military absorbed just 1.2 per cent of GDP. Under current plans, that share is set to rise to 1.5 per cent in 2024.

The comparatively low German defence budget has long been a source of dismay for Berlin’s Nato allies, and the US in particular.
