Qom (IP) - Participants of a meeting to commemorate martyrs of the 2015 massacre of Muslims in Nigeria called for the freedom of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki, the secretary-general of the country's peaceful Islamic Movement who is in poor health conditions.

Iran PressIran News: Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, former secretary-general of the Ahlulbayt World Assembly addressed the Thursday evening congregation held in the mausoleum of Hazrat Masoomeh (SA) shrine in Qom Province, south of capital Tehran to mark the Zaria killing.  

The Zaria massacre was committed by the Nigerian Army in Kaduna State, Nigeria in December 2015, in which Shia Muslims lost their lives. About 350 civilians were killed and their bodies secretly buried in a mass grave.

Zakzaki and his wife were injured and arrested in the attack in which their children were killed on Ashura day when Shia Muslims in peaceful processions mourn martyrdom anniversary Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Ayatollah Araki urged the government of Nigeria to allow Muslims to practice their faith freely similar to followers of other religions.
